I have loved animals since I was a little girl and today I couldn't imagine my life without dogs.
As a child my grandmother had a large Swedish Elkhound called Vukke
and he was my best friend. So from very early on Spitz type breeds
in the FCI group 5 have been very dear to my heart. When I was young I walked my neighbours dog and spent time at the stables taking care of horses. Horses were a big part of my life before I got more acquainted with the dog world and since then I have been hooked.
My husband Mikael
also shares my love for the dogs and enjoys the everyday life with our four legged friends rather than going to shows and other more formal activities. Tedi
was originally Mikael's dog and Kasper was mine. They were both
2-years-old when we met. The purchase of our American Akita Hera was a joint decision even though, I have to admit, I played a more active role in the
matter. Isla, our second American Akita, joined our family in 2008
and she was a long-awaited addition to our family.
We live in the center part of Finland in a house that we built in 2007. We have about 3 acres of our own land and our remote location gives us ideal surroundings to enjoy the nature every day.
The distance to our nearby lake is about 200 yards and in the summertime our dogs love to wade in the water and in the winter everyone races across the snow covered lake. We have no neighbours to speak of (except for a couple of summer cottages) so we get to live in peaceful surroundings in the middle of nature. This is a long time dream come true! Our kennel is a small homebased kennel and all of our dogs live with us in our home.
In the fall 2008 we built a run which can be devided in two parts and
we plan to add one or two more in the years to come. The run is in
use by Hera and Isla when we are not at home. Rest of the time our
dogs live together with us and take part in our everyday life.
The biggest dream and my goal for the future is to start our own breeding program
for American Akitas. I want to breed healthy dogs with excellent temperament, such friends that their owners are happy and proud to share their lives with them. The type, structure and appearance given in the breed standard is also something I am not willing to sacrifice. The main
principle is to act in the best interest of the breed and do my part so that American Akitas will
also in the future have those wonderful features that make them so special.
