The beans are thrown inside and outside the house and the people shout, “”Oni wa soto, fuku wa uti”” (devil is outside, good fortune is inside). Then they eat the same number of beans as their age as a wish for good health.
The beans are called “”mame”” in Japanese, which also means health. February 11th is designated as “”National Foundation Day””.
In mythology, it is the day when the first Japanese emperor ascended the throne and established the imperial lineage, and until the end of World War II, it was celebrated as a memorial day of country founded, but was suspended after the world war Ⅱ due to lack of historical basis.
However, it was later designated as a national holiday and was celebrated again.
